Rachel K Optometrist

"Asda do a great job keeping things simple, effective and affordable, without compromising on quality."

What does a typical day look like?

It starts with a lovely cycle through Poole Park. It's such a beautiful way to begin the day, and it really sets me up for whatever comes my way.

Once I'm in, it's usually a pretty busy day. I'm seeing people for sight tests and contact lens appointments. There's also a fair bit of work doing post-cataract checks, making sure everything's looking good after their surgery. I'm also currently supervising two student Dispensing Opticians. It's great to help them learn and develop, but it definitely adds another layer to the day.

When it's time to head home, I get to enjoy the cycle through Poole Park all over again. I really enjoy the variety and the feeling that I'm helping people with their eye health.

What's your favourite part of the job?

I love being part of the team we have here. All my colleagues have many years of valuable experience at Asda and within Optical. I can't believe that I'm still the newbie, after 5 years.

What advice do you have for anybody wanting to follow this career path?

Get organised. Actively learn and get comfortable being busy.

Why would you recommend a career at Asda?

Asda have an unbeatable product, which I feel very proud to be associated with. I have worked in other opticians, but chains and high-end independents but I love the autonomy I have here. Asda do a great job keeping things simple, effective and affordable, without compromising on quality.
