Our Business

Bringing brighter living within everyone's reach.
That’s more like it.

With around 150,000 colleagues helping c.16 million customers a week with their groceries, healthcare and more – it’s safe to say we’ve got everything covered here.

We’re a big player in the supermarket world. Our network is made up of over 1,000 stores across the UK, from superstores to petrol stations, as well as depots – and brand new Express stores. Not to mention our online services.

Millions of people across the country rely on Asda every week. And for every one of those customers, we’ve got a team of colleagues working together on the shop floors and behind the scenes. So that our customers can stock up on their favourites, as well as get the care they need, when they need it most.

So when it comes to everything, we’ve got it. And more.

The People's Champion

We’re the ultimate democratiser. Why? We dare to try to be ‘value innovators’, working relentlessly to make quality and style easily accessible wherever and whenever our customers choose. And we know that having time back in your day is as important as having pounds back in your pocket – which is why we work to save customers both.

As the People’s Champion, we don’t wait to make good stuff happen. Our optimism is rooted in an understanding of the day-to-day pressures we all face – so if we see an opportunity to lighten the load, we’ll crack on and find a way to do it.

And we’re powered by our people. From our colleagues in Logistics to those in Retail, our amazing community champions, and all those in our Home Offices – we’re all colleagues together, one team.

Awards

Having supported over 15,000 apprentices over the last 10 years, we’re so proud to be nationally recognised as a ‘Top 100’ Apprenticeship employer. We also recently won Yorkshire and Humber ‘Macro Employer of the Year’ in the 2023 National Apprenticeship Awards. And we’re excited to be in the National finals. We were also finalists in the West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards for Large Employer for 2024 and the Diversity and Inclusion Programme Award.

On top of that, ‘The Grocer’ recently awarded us 2023 Online Supermarket of the Year! And this really recognises the achievement and engagement of over 10,000 ecommerce colleagues and the Online Finance team.

We’re also excited to have been named Business of the Year at the 2024 Business Charity Awards for our long-running awareness and fundraising partnership with two cancer charities. Run by Third Sector, these awards recognise outstanding support given by businesses to UK charities and voluntary organisations.

And it’s not the only prize we scooped up that night. We also won the award for the best fashion and retail partnership, for our 28-year partnership with the cancer charities Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!.

Superstores

From food and homeware to clothing and more, our Superstores are our largest stores offering the widest range of products and services – including travel money bureaus, photo printing, and dry cleaners. And even lots of exciting brand concessions.

Supermarkets

Making up the majority of our store network, our supermarkets offer a huge range of services – from fresh food and non-food offers to Pharmacy, Opticians, and George. So our local communities can get everything they need, when they need it.

Asda Express stores

With over 400 new sites, our Asda Express convenience stores offer our customers and communities the chance to find Asda products and prices in more locations than ever before. It’s all the Asda greatness packed into a convenient size – whether you’re grabbing lunch on-the-go, buying dinner for the night, or topping up on essentials.

Asda Living

Our Asda Living stores showcase the best of Asda’s non-food offering. So our customers can pick up the latest seasonal trends from George’s fashion and homeware, as well as the very best of Asda’s general merchandise.

Petrol filling stations

Our Petrol Filling Stations offer both pay-at-pump and pay-at-kiosk, as well as everything our customers might need when they’re on the move (whether that’s milk for the essential cup of tea or some essential snacks for a long drive).

George

Offering fashionable clothes at fashionable prices, George at Asda is the UK’s third-largest fashion retailer by sales volume. With ongoing focus on style, quality, and value, we’ve helped busy customers shop how and when they want since 1989. Alongside fashion, we launched George Home in 2014. Grounded in the same pillars that George is loved for, quality, style and value, now for homeware and lifestyle, as well as fashion.

Asda Online

Since 2011, our customers have been able to get their food shopping done without having to set foot in the store – as one of our colleagues pops it in their car for them! Our Click & Collect services have grown to over 15 million orders a year, and 30% of all Click & Collect orders we get are same day collections.

The Asda App

On the Asda mobile app, our customers get the full shopping experience. Since 2014, they’ve been able to use a shopping list feature and build their shopping list at home – helping them budget, as well as not forget anything when they head into the store and tick them off as they shop.

On Android, we even have an integrated recipes experience, which lets customers browse our catalogue of recipes and instantly add them to their online basket or shopping list – with just the tap of a finger!

Logistics Services

A hub of activity for our business, our distribution operations span 43 operations nationwide – including 20 food depots, 3 clothing centres, 2 ambient GM hubs, 2 import centres, 2 National Sortation centres, 5 dot.com fulfilment centres and 9 ASCs (Asda Service Centres).

We’ve got more than 12,500 colleagues working across our distribution function processing a huge volume of our products – helping us deliver to all our shops, as well as to customers’ homes and to store for Click & Collect.

And as our transportation has grown with us, we’ve increased our biogas HGV fleet to 342 and invested in 6 biogas stations since 2021 – giving us the biggest biogas-powered HGV fleet in the UK. And we've set our sights on operating almost a thousand biogas trucks and investing in 10 more biogas stations by 2024.

Asda ToYou

The UK’s first end-to-end parcel solution, Asda ToYou uses minute-by-minute tracking to help our customers return or collect purchases from third party online retailers, at more than 600 of our stores. As well as collect and send parcels from Asda forecourts and collection points across the country.

Asda ToYou now serves millions of customers, moving over 19 million parcels in a year – offering our customers a choice of more than 140 third party partners to order, pick up and return through their local Asda store. And they can now use a fully automated tower to collect and return parcels through QR code technology.

IPL

Launched in 2004, International Procurement & Logistics (IPL) became part of the Asda family in 2009. And as a supply chain partner, they’re all about improving our customers’ shopping experience – driving great value, quality, and product availability.

With a network of suppliers and farmers across the world, they procure everything – from citrus fruits in South Africa, Chardonnay in Australia, flowers in Kenya, to strawberries here in Great Britain.

So whether it’s fruit and veg, houseplants and flowers, dried fruit and nuts, or wine and cooked meats and bacon, our customers can get everything they need – at an affordable price.

Asda Rewards

Launched nationwide in summer 2022, Asda Rewards provides customers with the chance to earn money into their Cashpots which they can then use when they buy groceries either in store or via Asda.com. More than seven million customers have used the Rewards app since launch and have earned over £300m in their Cashpots. Customers can earn into their Cashpots by buying 'star products' or by completing customer-specific missions, in addition regular bonuses are available through gamification mechanics such as Spin and Win and by linking Asda Rewards to other Asda products and services such as the Asda Money credit card.

The role is really varied and diverse. You get involved in so many different things! Everyone is so supportive and really cares about your personal development.
