Armed Forces
Helping the Armed Forces rediscover their everything after service.
That’s more like it.
We want everyone to be able to find their everything here at Asda. That’s why we’ve been part of the Armed Forces Covenant since 2014. Our Silver Status shows our dedication to supporting military personnel after service.
It’s about guaranteeing interviews for people who have left service, who meet the minimum criteria for a role, as well as providing leave for reservists’ training, support for cadet training, and supporting employment opportunities for their partners.
In fact, we hire more than one thousand new colleagues from the Armed Forces Service Leaver Community every year.
Air Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, Deputy Commander Capability, Royal Air Force signed on behalf of the Armed Forces, while Helen Selby, our General Counsel & Company Secretary and RAF veteran, signed on our behalf.
“Asda recognises the valuable skills and qualities of ex-Service military personnel that are easily transferable to many sectors, including that of retail. Offering a wide-range of opportunities, whether IT and technology or logistics and planning, Asda’s re-signing of the Military Covenant highlights their continued commitment to supporting those Veterans and Reservists that have served our nation.”
Sir Rich Knighton
“Veterans bring a host of unique skills and experience that are vitally important to businesses such as ours. We are proud to continue our support for the armed forces and help ex-personnel back into work and civilian life.”
Helen Selby, Legal Counsel
After my last tour I made the decision to leave. My wife – who works at Asda – told me about their Armed Forces Covenant. So I went for it, and I really enjoyed it. Asda later called and offered me a job. So I joined the company in the summer of 2015, and haven’t looked back.

The structure, the organisation, the fast pace and the dynamic activity really attracted me to Asda - it's a great fit for ex-military men and women.

Veterans Into Logistics
We’re so proud to help people in the Armed Forces rediscover their everything with us. That’s why, on top of being part of this covenant, we donated £40,000 to the Veterans into Logistics charity. To help them train 10 Armed Forces veterans into new careers as HGV drivers.
Our Logistics Services department has been in partnership with the charity for over 2 years now, supporting their mission to prevent homelessness and unemployment in the veteran community. And our donation played a big part in providing training and mentoring for veterans to earn their HGV licences, and result in new driving careers.
And we’re excited to say our commitment to helping ex-service people into new careers here at Asda has earned us the silver award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, once again!
I was drawn to working for Asda because it's a values-led organisation, like the military. And given the size of the business, there's such a breadth of opportunity.
Sara,
Leadership Capability and Coaching Manager
I always find that people here at Asda are willing to go that extra mile - just like in the Army. I'm so proud of my role here, which has allowed me to provide a good, secure future for my family.
Steven,
HGV Driver

My advice to ex-forces looking to transition into the corporate world is to go for it! I've done it and I've not looked back.
Kirsty,

Asda is a great choice for a career after leaving the forces. There's a lot of diversity and help from across the team.
