In all honesty I joined Asda as a meat colleague looking to save some money to go travelling. What kept me here was the teams I've worked with and the opportunities Asda has provided for me. I never did go travelling!
No two days are ever the same. My focus is on supporting the team, making sure our customers have a great shopping experience, and finding opportunities to make a difference.

In 2015, I joined Asda Swindon as a meat colleague, and since then I've been lucky to do most trading manager roles. I've been a General Store Manager for around 4 years now, working across most of the South West before recently returning to the North division.

I still remember the first conversation a Manager had with me when I was a colleague, and that they believed I had potential to do more!
Personally, for me I think it's seeing the development of past colleagues. I have a few people who I remember hiring as colleagues and giving their first TL or manager job. Now it's really rewarding to see how far they've come in their career. Knowing I've played a small part in their career is incredibly rewarding.
It may sound cliche but the desire to win and be the best! Communication, resilience, and the ability to build strong relationships are essential. Being adaptable and leading by example also helps create a positive environment where people can thrive.

For me its the culture - Other retailers try to copy it and they can't. Everybody who works at Asda knows what I mean...

I initially applied as a seasonal part-time colleague to fit work around having a new baby. I just loved the culture and the personality of ASDA as a company. What kept me here is a genuine love for the job, the people, and loyalty to the business.
