Question 1 of 5

We put customers at the heart of everything.

We are here to serve customers; they pay our wages – they trust us to deliver for them. But we have to be thoughtful about this and balance what they need with what our business needs to grow, securing a strong future for us all.

Scenario

Our operation is 24/7 we never stop working hard to deliver the very best service and provide the best products for our customers. The store has been hit by a variety of absence issues this week. The Store Manager has made changes with the team to ensure our online deliveries are not impacted and now needs to ask for further support to ensure our customers still get the best service coming into store. You have been asked to swap your shift to help.

Question 2 of 5

We Dare to Try

We can’t stand still. We need to innovate and be willing to try new things even though we know that can be scary at times. People will only try something new if they know they are supported and that we have their back when things go wrong, so show support and cheer on their progress as they go, as well as celebrating their success when they get there.

Scenario

Working in store is fast paced and we are ever moving, sometimes you can’t always locate a manager at the time a customer wants them. A customer comes to you to complain about a situation that is not on your area, and you don’t have much knowledge of the situation or how we would normally deal with such a complaint, you can see the customer is getting irate and shoppers are looking and know the majority of the managers are in a short meeting.

How would you respond?

Question 3 of 5

We don’t wait to make good stuff happen

It’s a highly competitive and fast changing market we operate in. We can’t slow down and when we see an opportunity to make our business even better for our customers, we go for it knowing that even if it isn’t perfect first time, it will still make a positive difference. We don’t wait for the perfect moment because someone else will get there first. We root our decision making in data and analytics.

Scenario

We don’t currently have a Community Champion in store, and you are aware of some local initiatives happening which align with our values, other local stores from our competitors are supporting these and doing activities which will raise money for the charities and promote them in the local community. You think it would be great for Asda to get involved.

What would you do?

Question 4 of 5

We love what we sell.

If we don’t love our products, then there’s a good chance our customers won't love them either. Which means they won’t buy them. We must be proud of everything we sell. If we are, then we’ll feel confident to recommend them and have fun talking about them to our customers.

Scenario

A customer approaches you in store and asks where a branded product is located, you know it is much more expensive than our own brand range and you know it is just as good as you did a taste test in your huddle last week, whilst walking them over to the aisle where the product is located.

Question 5 of 5

We are all colleagues, together one team.

There are over 150,000 colleagues in our team and every single one makes a contribution. We all have different backgrounds and experiences, and we value input from everyone. We will only achieve our ambitious aims if we feel like we are in this together, that we care about each other, and look out for and help each other – we will all succeed together or fail together.

Scenario

Teamwork is essential in our stores. You have had a busy morning but have completed your tasks ahead of schedule. Your colleague in another area is struggling to work their way through the daily tasks.

What would you do in this situation?
