Are you a strong Technical Delivery Manager or Technical Project Manager who has experience in working with third party development teams on a large-scale development programme?  Do you have SAP experience?  If so, then we would love to hear from you. 

Asda Technology are recruiting for a Delivery Manager, responsible for the delivery of new applications, and enhancements to existing applications.  The role will work with Programme teams across multiple areas of the Asda business as part of the Future Programme which sees Asda separate from Walmart.  This role is based within the George Technology team and working on the Future Programme whilst support any George SAP application development in parallel  

You won't have any direct reports but will be responsible for leading teams of third-party developers and working alongside a peer group of other Delivery Leads.  This is not a hands-on technical role, as development is delivered by our third-party suppliers however you will have a technical background to support, influence, and quality control deliverables. 


Your Role 

  • Involved in early Programme activity, providing input into Design and Build documentation that drives scope at build item level – eg WRICEF/technical development object list, functional specs, technical specs, development standards and approach  
  • Review Solution Architecture documentation and Functional Specifications to ensure that solutions are fit for purpose from an Apps Dev point of view 
  • Validate the level of effort estimation and duration of Apps Dev activities to provide accurate project estimates to the Build Lead and overall Programme Management 
  • Understand and plan tasks required to deliver solutions and identify how these tasks could be split across multiple resources to maximise the speed of delivery 
  • Create a Build Plan aligned to the overall Programme Plan, adhering to timelines, cost, resource utilisation, build item dependencies 
  • Co-ordinate development and development dependencies across teams, run stand ups 
  • Track and report on Build progress, monitor deviations to Plan and mitigate risk with proposed actions to bring back on track   
  • Ensure the creation of quality Technical Design Documents by third parties and that Technical Unit Testing takes place and results are recorded  
  • Engage with the QA team to inform and ratify the Test Plan 
  • Deliver consistent high-quality code through code review to ensure no issues before hand over 


About you 

  • The Future Programme is large scale and touches all areas of the Asda business - you will need to be able to work well under pressure 
  • See more broadly than just development – great communication, organisation and management skills to input into creation and delivery of the Build Plan and progress tracking and reporting on same  
  • Demonstrate the ability to be flexible and dynamic when responding to Programme demands
  • Large scale development with SAP  
  • Strong experience in delivering application solutions in large organisations (retail an advantage) 
  • Managing third party development teams - including near shore/offshore  
  • Leadership of technically mixed capability teams, providing direction and coaching 
  • SAP  
  • JIRA 
  • Azure Cloud 
  • Microsoft .Net Core and SQL Server
