Procurement (GNFR):Category Manager – Consumables, Waste & Recycling

About the Role 

Asda currently have an exciting opportunity for a Category Manager to join ourProcurement team. This is a fantastic opportunity for motivated individuals to progress their career, support Asda through its Transformation strategy and contribute to Asda's Every Day Low Cost culture. 

As an ASDA Category Manager you will be leading on and supporting a range of commercial activities with a focus on Supplier Management of our Consumables Consolidator and Waste Management partners in addition to running competitive tender activity across both areas. This will involve: 

  • Being responsible for the end-to-end delivery of complex and agile strategic sourcing processes  
  • Acting as a partner to the business functions who utilise the services you procure
  • Being accountable for creating and implementing Category Strategies to support the business objectives.  
  • Supporting with the Supplier Management Programme and helping to identify and mitigate risk in our supply chains. 
  • Partnering with senior stakeholders to advise on direction and commercial approach  
  • Responsible for managing procurement systems including savings reports, contract management and sourcing solutions (Ariba).  

What we are looking for:  

  • Previous experience of procuring services is desirable.   
  • Experience from Waste and/or Consolidation service categories is desirable but not essential 
  • Strong knowledge of commercial sourcing processes necessary to identify and onboard best in class capabilities and deals through excellent negotiation skills.  
  • Ability to work in an agile manner to flex and support the business needs in a fast-paced transformation environment 

 

Now is a really exciting time to join Asda with new ownership and leadership providing new direction for the business, with Procurement an important enabler to this strategy. You will interact closely and gain exposure with various senior stakeholders including the Retail, ALS, Sustainability, Finance and Legal teams. 

About You 

You'll need to have a proven background inprocurement. It would be advantageous but not essential for you to be CIPS accredited or working towards accreditation. The ability to negotiate confidently and effectively will be critical, as will the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and use these to influence plans and decisions. You'll be able to work in a very dynamic environment, with time pressures.
