Packaging and Print Specialist 

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Packaging and Print Specialist to join the ASDA Brand Product Development Team. This role is key to enabling the business to develop high quality and innovative packaging and print solutions that meet the needs and expectations of our Customers'. 
 
About the role:  
As a Packaging and Print Specialist, you will be one of a team of go-to Subject Matter Experts. This is a high profile and demanding role, supporting the delivery of high quality, sustainable, innovative, and legally compliant packaging and print solutions that are aligned to our wider business objectives. 

You will work closely with other teams within the Own Brand Function as well as wider teams within ASDA as a source of knowledge and guidance. 

 

What you'll be responsible for: 
Reporting to the Senior Manager Packaging and Print, you will:  

  • Develop structural packaging formats for New Product Development projects across all business areas as required including Fresh and Ambient Food, Non-Edible Grocery and Foodservice Categories. 
  • Work with creative artwork agencies to develop right first-time print execution, delivering technical print management and best-in-class colour control throughout the design development process, ensuring best-in-class levels of print quality and Brand consistency. 
  • Develop strong relationships with a wide range of product and packaging suppliers in order to identify and deliver innovative packaging solutions aligned to ASDA Brand Customer or Sustainability strategies. 
  • Act as a key point of contact for packaging and print queries from a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders.  
  • Ensure that Packaging Guidelines and Policies are adhered to, ensuring Brand compliance as well as execution of packaging sustainability targets in line with wider business objectives. 
  • Keep in touch with trends and developments in technology, sharing findings with internal teams and building into future NPD plans. 
  • Invest time in learning and self-development, maintaining high levels of expertise in Packaging, Print Technology and related subjects. 

 

About you: 

  • Do you have an IOP Diploma in Packaging Technology and/or a minimum of 3 years proven packaging development experience within an FMCG business? 
  • Do you have a sound knowledge of all print techniques used in the production of Packaging (Flexo, Litho, Gravure, Dry-Offset, Screen, Digital and Letterpress)? 
  • Are you a highly motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment? 
  • Do you have strong interpersonal and organisation skills, enabling you to work independently, prioritise effectively and deliver to deadlines? 
  • Are you able to demonstrate a real passion for packaging and print?  
  • Do you have a good level of awareness of sustainability principles, are you in touch with the latest industry news as well as able to use your network to seek out innovation opportunities? 
  • Are you a strong communicator who is able to present recommendations in a clear and concise manner to decision makers at all levels?
