We don’t compromise on anything at George. It’s all about getting the latest trends and the most stylish prints out on the shop floor at the best possible price. Our Buying team are the champions of this commitment, as they craft brilliant relationships that impact the pockets of consumers across the country. By keeping an eye on everything happening in the style world, you’ll work with our designers to create our future range. From comfy sofas to a gentleman’s tux, there’s a lot going on. So you’ll know how to get the best deals from manufacturers, monitor sales and keep planning the future of design.
Designers at George enjoy bringing their vibrant ideas to life. Through discovering the latest trends, constantly searching for inspiration, they use their creative flair to design some of the most popular products in the country. In fact, they often set the latest trends. But, as with any popular brand, there’s a lot that goes into creating clothing and homeware that can’t be ignored. Our Garment Designers turn their drawings into design packs for our suppliers to create sample garments. Our Graphic Designers create the classic prints that add that stylish element to our clothes and homeware. Store Designers turn their vision of an exciting, efficient and enjoyable shopping experience into reality. And as part of the Walmart family, we’ve teamed up with some big names to further our appeal, such as Disney. Of course, this also includes the incredibly popular Marvel and Star Wars brands. It means George isn’t just a supermarket clothing and homeware store. It’s a place where you can design for the whole country.
Technical & Quality Assurance
It takes a lot of work to get a piece of design from an idea to reality. And with our Technical Quality colleagues, everything our customers buy is as good, if not better, than the original vision. They do it by working with our Sourcing colleagues to find and secure the best suppliers. They team up with Buyers to find the best products. And they collaborate with Designers to give feedback on what our customers think. It’s all about making sure that everything has what we call the ‘gold feel’ (which is George speak for the feel, look, shape, quality, safety and fit of our products). And that everything meets the safety standards in all of our markets in the UK, EU and America. But it doesn’t end there. You’ll seek innovation, looking at new shapes and styles to bring ideas to our Designers that will delight the customer. It’s a challenge, but one worth doing. Because when you’re finding ethical, responsible and supportive ways of saving people money so they can live better there’s just no better feeling.
Digital & IT
From beds to threads, people are buying nearly everything online. It’s a time-savers dream. But they still expect the same – or better – experience than they would have in one of our stores. So it takes a team of digital connoisseurs who can deliver the great George.com experience. With marketing, merchandising, sales, operations, web development and design, this is definitely not an afterthought. If you’re digital to the core, this is a chance to help shape the online presence of a major international brand.
There’s something quite special about George. And it would be a bit of a shame to keep it from everyone else. So we’re not. Which is where our International Team comes in. They take Design for Real Life, and give it to even more people. Take our Franchise Team. By working with Merchandisers and Buyers, they take a strategic approach, selecting products for Malta and the Channel Islands. And working with our supply chain, they get everything delivered. But, to run a retailer, it takes much more than product, so our Marketing and Retail team give their support. It includes planning store layouts, managing the brand identity and producing a range of marketing, from website through to print and point of sale. Then you’ve got our Walmart team, who provide George British Design to Walmart’s partner markets. From picking and proposing products, having the correct amount of stock ready, organising deliveries and everything else that it takes to get a product to our friends across the world. Of course, with Save money. Live better as our purpose, it includes being quick, efficient and discovering great ways to reduce costs. That way, we’re not just helping people in our own country to live better, but people around the planet. Logistics and Supply Chain
Since we launched in 1989, our collection has been growing ever since. So it’s safe to say that getting all of our products from our suppliers, into the Distribution Centres and back out to the right places is a big operation. It’s important, because if anything goes wrong, it costs money. That’s money we could be saving the customer. It’s the perfect place for a Supply Chain superstar who knows how to manage the flow of goods from supplier to customer. And someone who just wants to help people save money so they can live better. We’re part of the Asda and Walmart family, after all.

But the Retail team back in George Home Office stitch everything together with the finest detail. There’s a lot to do, from planning product launch dates and store layouts to creating visual merchandising briefs and shop floor flow. But it all comes together to create the George experience that our customers, and colleagues, love. Join, and shape the look and feel of our stores, creating spaces that customers just don’t want to leave. At George, there’s so much more to sourcing than finding suppliers with the right products. It’s why we’ve got three Sourcing teams, making sure we’re not just the most efficient function in the industry. But the most ethical and responsible too. Because to us, value for money doesn’t mean finding the cheapest suppliers to work with. But the best. And, if they’re not quite the best, we work with them to help them improve. We want to become the ‘go to’ brand for suppliers across the world, but we never want to put them under pressure to perform. In Products and Fabrics, you’ll be key to delivering better low cost products through a world-class sourcing operation. Our Supplier Engagement Team make sure our suppliers become our partners, who have the knowledge and resources to meet our standards. And our Packaging & Process Team figures out the possible ways to bring goods into the business. This includes making sure all of our packaging is of the highest quality, driving efficiency to get the best costs for the business. Ultimately, our Central Sourcing Team is discovering efficient, ethical and responsible ways of finding suppliers with the products that make George such a great, yet affordable, brand.
