About the role

The role is to provide service & support to the operations teams through depots delivering to store. It is also to represent ALS across the wider Asda business & acting as the conduit between central & local teams​ .

Key Accountabilities:

  • ​​Lead and implement the network operational plan to meet business strategy and cost;
  • ​Responsible for leading business change projects in the network;
  • ​Responsible for network operational performance, leading colleagues and shaping decisions on general business issues;
  • ​Responsible for overall network KRAs;
  • ​Responsible for depot colleagues, drivers and fleet within their region, driving the strategy to attract, develop and retain the best talent;
  • ​Liaise with the People & Labour relations teams to find joint solutions;
  • ​Chair the RJC and support national pay negotiations;
  • ​Develop milestone plan & governance proposal to support implementation of the network plan; 
  • ​Identify department savings as part of the LCOM agenda in their network;
  • ​Lead the execution and implementation of the  LCOM agenda in their network; 
  • ​Build network future capability through a combination of external talent sourcing, internal skill transfer and identifying appropriate talent solutions;
  • ​Optimising available resources – people, process, equipment to ensure delivery of network depot plan;
  • ​Responsible for the implementation of the network compliance strategy, leading the depot team on safety and ensuring they are legal and ethical in everything they do;   
  • ​Lead the CECI agenda across their network.​ 

How you'll do it:

Knowledge

  • ​​​​The role requires comprehensive knowledge of logistics, along with the experience of leading a business area in delivering against functional objectives;
  • ​You will use your diverse understanding of logistics as you drive improvement in ALS.  

Communicating and influencing

  • This is a leadership role, requiring you to build and maintain a network of peers and contacts;  
  • ​You will comfortably challenge, confront, and solve difficult situations whilst maintaining solid internal and external connections;
  • ​Influencing and negotiating at different levels across the business and with third party suppliers; 
  • ​You will achieve results through inspiring and motivating your team(s) to take action and deliver against the strategy.

Freedom to Think and Act

  • This role requires a degree of autonomous thinking as you set and deliver your areas strategy using your experience and guided by broad principles and direction of the business. You have the freedom to define your own plan using own judgement to achieve success.

Skills for the role:

Required

  • ​​Proven influence at all levels​;
  • ​Substantial experience of Negotiating with third parties;​  
  • ​Stakeholder management;
  • ​Experience of strategic thinking;​  
  • ​Ability to think ahead, make decisions to adapt plans​. ​ 

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent;​  
  • ​Experience of logistics.
