Can you add value in a fast-paced commercial environment where you will be providing legal advice at the cutting edge of an extremely competitive industry?

 

As a Legal Manager, you will partner with our commercial teams to provide clear, straightforward legal advice to meet strategic goals and support supplier relationships. You will be actively encouraged to think innovatively about the delivery of legal support, engage in horizon-scanning and provide key advisory on changes in the retail and consumer space.

 

 

Your Role 

The ASDA business is a national retailer with 140,000 colleagues and stores and depots across the UK.  We help find solutions and provide advice on a wide range of areas: e-commerce, IT, logistics, marketing, people development, healthcare, financial services, telecoms, energy, the charity sector and much more.  If you thrive on variety then this role is for you. We do far more than just transact a deal and negotiate a contract. 

Due to the fast paced nature of food retail no day is ever the same, and actions taken by the business can very quickly become national news; meaning that we must deliver the right advice at the right time.

We never stand still. We have a huge focus on innovation and digitisation and are continuously reviewing the latest legal tech to ensure we have all the right tools. All Legal colleagues are encouraged to innovate and drive improvements in the way Legal services are delivered.

Recent key highlights for the team:

  • Supporting the business during the Covid Pandemic including on: the £5m donation to the Fight Hunger Charity; increasing ASDA's call centre capacity to help vulnerable customers; and the launch of Asda Food Boxes.
  • Enabling the international expansion of George.com via a third party technology solution
  • Completing multiple licences with household entertainment names to enable ASDA to design and manufacture branded goods

 

About You

We'd love to hear from you if you have/are:-

  • Strong academic/degree background;
  • UK Qualified Solicitor 1-4 years PQE;
  • Previous experience within either Contract, Corporate or Litigation;
  • worked at a leading national law firm or regional firm or in-house practise;
  • Broad experience from tendering to contract management including exit;
