Corporate Affairs Manager, ScotlandHead Office

The Corporate Affairs team represents the business and its interests to government, outside agencies and wider stakeholders. You will be a vital link in maintaining positive relationships with a wide range of interests across Scotland including politicians, civil servants, NGOs and community groups. The role will also work closely with the media relations team to build Asda’s profile with the Scottish media. You will report to the Head of Corporate Affairs UK (based in NI and Leeds). You will represent the business on a range of issues, working with colleagues in government affairs, property, media relations, community, local sourcing, legal and importantly with local store operations. The role will be based primarily in Edinburgh (flexible options). There will be a requirement for regular travel to Leeds (approx. 2 days per month). There will also be regular travel across Scotland/UK as required to attend meetings, store visits, etc.

  • Delivering our proactive engagement programme through the corporate affairs plan for Scotland
  • Monitor trends and developments in policy, regulation and legislation
  • Identify business risks and develop clear plans to mitigate where possible and help the business to prepare
  • Guide the business through major new legislation
  • Day to day liaison and management with our public affairs agency in Scotland
  • Represent the business at a range of events and meetings with stakeholders including conferences, seminars and other platform opportunities
  • Work with the community team to develop and promote Asda’s community programme
  • Work with the local sourcing team to highlight Asda’s work with local suppliers to media and political stakeholders
  • Close liaison with store managers and Community Champions to support their external outreach work
  • The post holder will be expected to work with the wider UK corporate and government affairs team on wider policy issues in the UK
