ASDA culture

Working at ASDA is completely different from working anywhere else. Why? It’s because there are so many ways our culture is unique. For example we all wear a name badge, we all have daily huddles to keep up to date on how we're performing and sometimes we even all join together for the ASDA chant.

One team

We’re one team of over 170,000 colleagues working across the business. Fundamental to this is the “way we do things around here”, that’s our culture and the way we work.

Our three values are:

  • We put our customers first everyday
  • We care for our colleagues everyday
  • We strive to be the best we can be everyday

Our customers

Our customers are at the heart of everything we do and our purpose is to make all our goods and services as affordable as possible. Behind this is our culture that makes all this possible.

It’s a culture where we work as one team to support our stores, drawing on the strengths and expertise of individuals and sharing in each other’s successes.

Our attitude

Then there’s the drive, commitment and ‘can do’ attitude that means great ideas can be put into action quickly. It’s really a question of asking ourselves how we can do things instead of looking for reasons not to do them.

This, in a nutshell is the way we work. Join us and it will all become second nature to you in no time at all. Just to give you a taste of what’s to come, here are a few unique components of the ASDA way of doing things.

Huddles

Huddles are our way of keeping us all informed about how the business is performing. It’s how we outline and communicate our key activities for the day and helps us all to remain focused on the same goal. It also gives us a chance to acknowledge and celebrate team and individual successes.

Name badges

It’s not just our store colleagues who wear name badges. We all do - wherever we work – from all the colleagues at ASDA House, our Head Office, to our General Store Managers and Directors. We think it helps to make everyone that bit more approachable when we’re all on first name terms.

The Big Brunch

The Big Brunch is our quarterly huddle held in ASDA House in Leeds. This gives colleagues the opportunity to share important information in a fun, unusual and relaxed way to spread the news to everyone.

The Big Brunch starts with a performance in ASDA House’s atrium – that’s entrance hall to you and me. Artists who have performed in the past have included Corrine Bailey Rae and Alphabeat, whose CDs we sell in store, as well as local dance groups and other local performers.

No jacket required

We think jackets are a barrier to approachability. So when you join ASDA you can also look forward to saving on those dry cleaning bills!

10 foot rule

Sounds mysterious, but it’s really very simple. If someone’s within 10 feet of you, either a colleague, customer or a supplier, we believe you should always say “hello” to them. It just takes a second, but it builds a real atmosphere of friendliness, warmth and respect.
