ASDA named britain’s most innovative employer

On Thursday 19th March 2009 we were named 'Innovative Employer of the Year' at this year's prestigious Retail Industry Awards.

We won the accolade for our "comprehensive suite of strategies and people innovations", beating off strong competition from Sainsbury’s, Gap, Carphone Warehouse and Hotel Chocolat. This award reaffirms our belief that ASDA is one of the best places to work in the UK.

The award recognised various initiatives we have in place for rewarding and recognising our colleagues including:

• 2008 Year of Colleague Health – a year of activities to help colleagues and their families live healthier lives, including a slimathon (which 3,500 colleagues have signed up to) and the provision of new health benefits.
• Stars Colleague recognition programme – this ensures that outstanding performance in stores and depots across the country is recognised and rewarded.
• Diversity road show - this initiative ensures that all of our colleagues fulfil their potential and that store teams reflect the make-up of their local community.
• Suggestion programmes and regular listening groups – these ensure we capture feedback from all of our colleagues.
