Customer Service

Our stores are at the heart of everything we do, and their success depends on total customer satisfaction. It’s our Customer Service Team’s job to deliver support to contribute to this.

There are eight different departments working as one joined up team to make sure that we live up to our mission: 'To be the UK's best value retailer exceeding customer needs. Always.’

For example both the Service and Service Resolution Teams work to deal with complaints, suggestions and comments about our products or service. We even have a team whose sole job is to help customers set up electrical equipment they’ve just bought from us.

To ensure we always give great service there are also support roles within our team whose aim is to find smarter, more economical ways of working. While they don’t deal directly with customers, their role is to take a strategic viewpoint of how we can deliver even better customer service in the future.

Finance

Our Finance Department is in a class of its own and this comes down to the colleagues who work in it. They’re talented, proactive and totally focused on driving financial efficiency across the whole business.

It’s a Department which has a very high profile within ASDA as it touches virtually every area of the business. We’re responsible for everything from exercising financial controls to analysing business performance and from establishing supplier strategies to helping to make the business case for stocking new products.

The bottom line for everything we do in the Finance Department is to look at ways to improve on our financial performance so we can continue to deliver the best possible value for our customers.

Within the Finance department, we’ve our Accounts Payable team:

Accounts Payable

ASDA is a £multi-billion business so we’ve an Accounts Payable team to match. It’s one of the largest in the UK and its efficient operation is vital for thousands of ASDA suppliers worldwide.

Within the department we have a wide range of roles available. These cover everything from making sure all invoices we receive are entered into our system, to dealing with queries and treating our suppliers with respect by making payments at the agreed time.

A large part of our team is dedicated to income collection, which means that we collect money from suppliers if they have used the fixtures in our stores for promotions or if we’ve a turnover agreement with them. This means that a supplier returns money to us if we sell a pre-agreed volume of stock through our stores.

IT

At ASDA, our IT department is known as ISD, which is short for Information Systems Division. The ISD Team look after the countless computer systems that are needed to run ASDA. It's our responsibility to make sure the systems are fit for purpose and to keep them all running smoothly.

Helpdesk Analysts

At the ‘front line’ of the ISD team, you’ll find our Helpdesk Analysts. We take calls from colleagues reporting the issues which they are experiencing with their systems in store. It’s our job to assess the problem and offer solutions to restore systems as soon as possible. This could range from anything from a problem with a PC in store to an entire store's tills failing meaning that they can't trade - so it can be a really demanding role with real responsibility!

ISD Project Managers

We research the computing needs of the business and introduce solutions to meet them. We look for new software, new systems and new ways to develop to ensure that we’re industry leading. We also have Team Leaders who take a more strategic overview of projects and evaluate their value to stores and colleagues.

Security and Loss Prevention

Any loss which we suffer as a business has a direct impact on our bottom line, and that means our customers potentially suffer. So our Loss Prevention Department does everything possible to prevent this from happening. We’ve a number of teams:

Corporate Security

This encompasses everything from providing security guards to investigating criminal incidents. We're also responsible for installing security equipment including CCTV cameras and product tagging in our stores.

Total Loss Team

We work across the whole business identifying potential security risks and developing solutions, while Distribution Loss Prevention fulfils the same role across our distribution network.

Corporate Travel Team

We advise on and organise travel bookings for the entire business, from rail and air travel to hotel accommodation and car hire at the lowest possible costs.

Retail Development

We open around 20 new stores each year and it’s our responsibility to see each project through from initial planning to completion. This whole process can take several years!

Initially, our Strategic Development and Insight Teams locate likely areas for new stores. Our Surveyors will then review a site to ensure it’s suitable. Once the decision to go ahead is made, the Property Team undertake all the work needed to buy a site and arrange all necessary planning and other permissions.

Then it’s over to the Store Designers and Space Team to decide how the store will look and what the layout will be. Our Quantity Surveyors will cost the scheme and the Procurement Team source all the building materials from the bricks to the shelves inside the store. The final stages are for the Implementation Team to build the brand new ASDA or ASDA Living Store and for Store Services to maintain the completed building.

HR

It’s our people who make our unique culture come to life and that’s why we like to call Human Resources our People Department. It’s this team's job to take care of everything from recruiting to developing great training tools. Our team is divided into the following four sections.

People Team

We look after the day to day needs of colleagues who work in ASDA House, our Home Office. We also take care of ASDA House recruitment needs, as well as for some field based roles. This is a crucial part of our business because we need the very best colleagues to contribute to our business in order to deliver in our mission to be UK's best value retailer.

Colleague Relations

We set and implement people policies and also provide a helpline for colleagues and managers needing support and advice on general employment law as well as ASDA’s own policies.

Resourcing and Development Team

Not only do we attract and recruit retail and senior management colleagues, we provide everyone across the whole business with the training they need to develop their careers.

Reward and Recognition Team

We look after everything from developing our pay strategy to negotiating colleague discounts and making sure that outstanding contributions to the business are always recognised and celebrated. To find out more about the ways that we do this at ASDA, click here.
