Distribution

Distribution roles

So what’s distribution all about? Read on and see for yourself:

Depot Warehouse Colleagues

As depot warehouse colleagues, we are critical to delivering fantastic service from the depots to our stores. We're the colleagues who receive the goods into the depots from our suppliers, prepare the deliveries from the warehouses for distribution out to stores and who load the trucks which are due to leave the depots to deliver the products. We make sure that the right products go to the right stores and that goods are delivered on time so that our stores can continue to look after our customers, the most important people! If you'd like to join one of our depot teams as a warehouse colleague please apply directly to your local ASDA depot. Click here to find your local depot.

General Managers

We’re responsible for making sure our depots run efficiently 24 hours a day, seven days a week - and with a typical depot budget being over £12 million a year, there's a lot to consider! We champion the ASDA culture in our depots and are responsible for delivering an outstanding customer experience to our stores. Our role is to inspire the teams in our depots to deliver our products to the stores on time.

Warehouse Operations Managers

We make sure our warehouses have the stocks to supply our stores and lead and motivate a team of managers to achieve our shared goals. Cost control is an important consideration along with analysing performance information to make our service even more efficient.

Transport Operations Manager

We’re responsible for managing the 24/7 schedule of up to 65 stores through a large team of colleagues including drivers and the team on site. It’s a role which requires great organisation and planning skills as well as developed leadership skills and a results driven attitude.

People Managers

We work hand-in-hand with the General Manager and other managers to ensure that we support our people in every area from recruitment to training and from disciplinary and grievance matters to salary control. We’re responsible for ensuring that the depot is a great place to work and support the management team to coach and develop our colleagues.

Transport Efficiency Managers

It’s ASDA’s aim to make sure all of our stores are fully stocked whilst clocking up the minimum possible road miles and number of deliveries to achieve this and deliver our ASDA promises. Our role is to support this by making the best possible use of our network and fleet of delivery vehicles.

Finance Managers

We’ve a background in accountancy and it’s our role to produce the accounts for the distribution business plans and to analyse how efficiently we’ve been performing. We also play a key role in planning and constantly improving the quality of our service to our stores whilst driving costs down.

Transport Line Managers

We’re in charge of the day to day running of our distribution network managing driver hours, route planning and fleet management. We motivate the team to make sure that the depot is an enjoyable place to work whilst working hard to meet all our operational targets.

Warehouse Line Managers

We’re the warehouse counterparts to the Transport Line Manager and this involves running the warehouse efficiently, safely and within budget. We lead a team of up to 50 people and work closely with all the other managers on site to co-ordinate the smooth running of the warehouse.

Industrial Engineers

We’re always looking for ways to make our depots more efficient so there is a great deal of scope for us to help with introducing mechanisation and automation. We’re responsible for examining the site, making recommendations and then producing a compelling argument for their introduction.
