Supermarkets, Superstores and Supercentres

Here at Asda, we have a range of different store formats, perfect to meet the needs of our different types of customer. Whenever we're planning new stores, we make lots of effort to find out exactly what the local community wants and ensure that the store fits in with their needs and the local environment. We have three food store formats that help us achieve this, as well as our Living store format.

At the smaller end of the scale are our Asda Supermarkets, usually serving towns or suburban centres with mainly food products, and employing between 100 and 250 colleagues. While they're smaller in size, they're just as big on quality and service as every other Asda store.

In the middle are the Asda Superstores. These are the stores that most people associate with the Asda name, and are usually located in the centre or on the edge of larger towns. Much bigger in size normally around 44,000 square feet, they offer a huge choice of foods plus lots of other things like George clothing, household and electrical products. In a typical Superstore, there are around 500 colleagues.

Biggest of all are the Asda Walmart Supercentres, selling the full range of Asda food and general merchandise products. They have an average sales space of 85,000 square feet, and you'll find them on edge of town sites or large retail parks. To provide customers with the complete shopping experience, a Supercentre might employ up to 1000 colleagues.
