Training means a lot to us at Asda. No matter what you do, we'll make sure you're trained to do it really well. Then we'll give you all the coaching you need to keep developing new skills. It all starts with our award-winning 'Best Welcome' induction event, where you'll get to know about Asda, meet lots of our people and begin to understand what makes us so different.

Then it's into a 12-week programme of on-the-job training, supported by your personal 'training buddy' who'll sign off your training as you master the different parts of the job and the skills you'll need. At regular intervals you'll also have time with your Line Manager to discuss how it's going and make sure everything's okay for you.

Once your training is completed and validated by your manager, you're off and running. Depending on your department, there may be some additional product knowledge coaching to do to make sure you're up to speed with everything on our shelves and on the button when customers ask questions.

From here on, you'll be well equipped to do your job well, and always able to 'top up' your training to keep getting better. By developing yourself you'll get more satisfaction out of the job. You're happy. The customers are happy. We're all happy.

Asda Skills Academy

Who needs university, when you can earn while you learn?

The Asda Skills Academy is a vocational alternative to University, available to eligible Asda colleagues. It offers Retail Apprenticeships and a Higher Professional Diploma in Retail Management, all allowing you to earn while you learn. In other words, eligible colleagues can work towards the vocational equivalent of a debt-free degree and gain one of the most valued qualifications in retail. Programmes are offered at the following levels:

Level 2 (Intermediate) Retail Apprenticeship (equivalent to GCSE/Scottish Standard)

Level 3 (Advanced) Retail Apprenticeship (equivalent to A level/Scottish Higher)

Level 4 Higher Professional Diploma in Retail Management (equivalent to HND/First year of a Foundation Degree)

An initial assessment of your experience will identify the right programme for you, allowing you to then begin working towards a nationally recognised qualification awarded by City & Guilds. Whichever level you enter, you'll gain huge satisfaction knowing your hard work and dedication will be rewarded with a qualification that could take your career further, faster.
