This privacy statement sets out how ASDA Stores Limited (a
company registered in England and Wales under company number
464777) ("Asda", "we", "our" or "us"), the operator of the website
www.Asda.jobs (the "site"),
complies with UK data protection law.
This privacy statement applies to the processing of your
application by Asda and your use of the recruitment services on the
site.
Asda may update this privacy statement and so you should check it
from time to time, and always before you submit an application, to
make sure that you are happy with any changes that may have been
made (as detailed below).
Privacy
Our aim is to be as clear and open as possible about what we do
with your personal data and how we use it. If you apply for a
position using the online recruitment services, or via your agency,
Asda will receive and use the information you provide (including
personal data) for the recruitment purposes outlined in this
privacy statement.
What information do we collect and what do we use it
for?
You can have a look through the site without giving us any of your
personal data.
If you decide to apply for a position via the site or your agency,
Asda will need to collect and process your personal data,
including:
• Name, address and postcode - without this we would not know
where to send recruitment information.
• E-mail address - we send a confirmation of your application via
email. We may use e-mail or telephone to advise you of similar
alternative vacancies unless you have asked us not to. We may also
contact you by e-mail if you have only partially completed an
application. Rest assured, we won't bombard you with boring
emails!
• Contact telephone numbers - if there are any problems with your
application or we need to clarify anything with you, we need to be
able to contact you quickly. Again, we won't pester you.
• User name and password - this is to keep your personal data
secure and so that you can return to a partially completed
application at a later date.
• Your application - this is required so that we may assess you.
Such personal data will include details of your skills (including
education, professional qualifications and training), employment
history and referees. You should only provide the personal data
required by our application template. This template includes a
question about any adjustments that may be required should you be
invited for interview/assessment.
• Disability data - any personal data you provide about a
disability is sensitive personal data. By providing such sensitive
personal data, you agree to allow us to use it for the purposes of
making any necessary adjustments if you are invited for
interview/assessment, and for monitoring purposes.
• Criminal records checks - some roles may require us to enquire
about previous criminal convictions or carry out criminal records
checks. If this is necessary we will make you aware of this as
early in the recruitment process as possible.
• Other personal data specified during the online application
process that is relevant to recruitment.
If your application is successful and we recruit you to work with
Asda, we will also require your National Insurance number (and any
other proof of your right to work in the UK, for example visa or
working permits), bank details, date of birth, next of kin and
driving licence (if applicable).
Use and disclosure of information
The personal data you provide will be used to:
• Process your application
• Consider you for the position for which you have applied, and
subsequent suitable vacancies (unless you have opted not to be
contacted in respect of subsequent vacancies)
• Fulfil Asda's legal obligations
• Carry out internal record keeping
• Provide general aggregate information (which does not identify
individuals) and statistics to help Asda develop its websites and
services
• Make up part of your personnel records if your application is
successful (but only to the extent that such personal data is
relevant to your on-going employment)
• Approach your nominated referees for the purposes of obtaining
references
• Carry out equal opportunities monitoring (see below)
Please note that we may use service providers to process your
personal data on our behalf but only for the purposes outlined
above.
Where you provide personal data about somebody else, for example,
your referees, you should ensure that they have given their
consent.
IP addresses
When you visit the site, we may receive your IP address, a unique
identifier for your computer or other access device. We do not use
your IP address to identify you.
Cookies
We will also store personal data obtained about you automatically
from cookies (small text files which are sent by us or our external
web host to your computer). We use cookies to:
• greet you personally and speed up your log-in when you come back
to the site; and
• measure response to advertising and to keep track of the number
of visitors to the site.
We may look at cookies stored on your computer when you visit the
site in future or when you open an email from us. We are able to do
this by including web beacons (also known as clear GIFS or web
bugs) in our emails and on the site. Our web beacons do not store
personal data on your computer but, by talking with our cookies on
your computer, they can tell us when you have opened emails from us
and what pages you have looked at.
We may also use third party web analytics services (for example
Google Analytics, a popular web analytics service provided by
Google, Inc.) to help us look at how users use the site. The
service provider may be based outside the UK but your personal data
will only be used for the purpose of looking at your use of the
site, putting together reports on website activity and providing
other services connected with website activity and internet usage.
The service provider may also let third parties have this personal
data where required to do so by law, or where such third party
provides the personal data on the service provider's behalf. The
service provider will not associate your IP address with any other
data held by them.
If you have Adobe Flash installed on your computer (most computers
do) and you use our audio or video players, the web analytics
service may try to store some additional data on your computer.
This data is known as a Local Shared Object or Flash cookie. This
helps us look at the popularity of our media files. We can count
the total number of times each file is played, how many people
watch videos right to the end and how many people give up half way
through. Adobe's website explains how to control Flash cookies on
your computer.
Turning cookies and web beacons off
You have a choice to accept or reject cookies and web beacons. You
may set up your web browser to notify you of cookie placement
requests or web beacons, or you can choose to reject cookies or web
beacons completely.
If you want to delete any cookies or web beacons that are already
on your computer or reject future cookies or web beacons, please go
to the instructions for your file management software or look at
www.aboutcookies.org.
Please remember that if you delete or reject cookies or web
beacons, certain parts of the site may not be available or may not
function properly. If you do not reject cookies or web beacons and
you continue to use the site, you agree to our use of such cookies
and web beacons.
Equal Opportunities
Our full Equal Opportunities Policy can be viewed on asda.com. We
are required by law to make basic documentation checks on every

or ethnic origin, religion or belief, age bracket, details of any
disability and sexual orientation is requested for the purpose of
monitoring the effectiveness of our Equal Opportunities policy.
This personal data is requested purely for monitoring
purposes.
International transfers
In order to carry out the steps set out above we may send your
personal data outside of the European Economic Area and, if
necessary, across international borders. By submitting your
personal data to us, you agree to this transfer, storing and
processing. The data protection laws in these countries may not be
as comprehensive as in the European Economic Area. However, we will
take appropriate steps to make sure there is an adequate level of
protection for processing personal data in these countries in
accordance with the UK Data Protection Act 1998.
Any details you provide may be electronically sent to the US to
our parent company Walmart Stores, Inc., which helps us in running
our websites. However, any such personal data will be dealt with in
accordance with the UK Data Protection Act 1998.
Storage of Data
We will not store your personal data for any longer than is
necessary for the purposes for which it was collected or as
required by law. However, we may be obliged by law to store your
communications and personal data including activity logs and we may
need to show details of these to government or authorised officials
upon request. Like many websites, we use log files to monitor the
effectiveness of our online marketing programmes.
