Hi, I’m Rob and I’m an Optometrist at ASDA.
When a friend from college who’d got a job in an ASDA Optical department told me what a great place to work ASDA is, I’ll admit I was pretty sceptical. But then when an opportunity came up at my local store I decided to find out more.
I’ve been here since 2006 and all I can say it that I wish I’d taken my friend’s advice much sooner!
There are so many advantages to working at ASDA but the two main ones are the flexibility of hours and the fact that we’re in a busy supermarket. The flexibility means that some days I don’t have to be in till 10 so I can enjoy a leisurely breakfast with my wife and our two year old son. By being in the store the Optical Department always has plenty of potential customers and when someone cancels an appointment at the last minute it’s usually easy to fill.
There’s a small but close-knit team in our department and each week we all get together to discuss sales, celebrate successes and plan how to build our business. I really like the way that we’re able to show our entrepreneurial flair; it’s as if we’re running our own business!
I also get pretty frequent opportunities to take on project work for our Head Office, ASDA House. These are great because it really makes me feel part of the wider business, and helps to raise my profile for future opportunities too!
