I’m Maria and it’s my role to manage the marketing within the local area for new or recently improved stores or when our stores find there’s a new competitor supermarket opening nearby.

I’m one of six managers who support the whole country between us and one thing we all have in common is that we’re all incredibly busy!

As you’d expect, my role involves lots of travel and overnight stays because when I’m working on a particular store’s marketing it’s essential to get to know the area and a feel for the general environment it’s operating in. This gives me the chance to spot opportunities I just wouldn’t see if I was working at arm’s length and means that my briefs to the marketing agencies we use can be even more insightful.

While I love my role at the moment I think my future at ASDA could be even more exciting. There are just so many opportunities here and the great thing about working at ASDA is that you’re never pigeon-holed. If you’ve shown you’re good at your role and have the results to prove it, the potential to move into other areas is always there. For example, I’m thinking about becoming a store’s HR Manager, or People Manager as we call them at ASDA, so that I can use the insight I’ve gained into how stores work in my current role, in a completely different area.
