Trading Manager for ASDA Living

Hi, I’m John, but everyone at ASDA knows me by my nickname, Shoey. I'm a Trading Manager for ASDA Living which means I lead the team of colleagues who identify products, negotiate the right prices and manage the product availability for our ASDA Living stores.

I am proud to say that I began my career with seven years at Associated Dairies, ASDA’s parent company, followed by 27 years at ASDA itself. So now I've notched up 34 years of consecutive service! In this time I’ve worked in many areas of the business including Stock Management, Distribution, Cost Control and numerous buying roles.

My role is in the ASDA Living business, which is a very exciting place to be. It’s a real growth area for us so I feel that I can help shape the future of the Living concept for ASDA.

Every day there’s something different to do so I might be meeting other departments who are working with us to launch new initiatives, ensuring everyone is working to the same schedule to make sure we’re on target to meet them or reviewing and acting on customer feedback and resolving any day to day operational issues which might come up.

As I’ve said, I’ve experienced many parts of the business in my time here and I've had the opportunity to be involved in some really exciting business areas and projects. Highlights include when my team won an award for supporting UK vegetable growers whilst I worked within the Produce team and jumping off a telegraph pole whilst on an ASDA development day! I've also had the opportunity through ASDA to learn about lots of different cultures as many of my roles have required extensive travel.

There is lots of great work still to do in the Living team as we're at the beginning of a big expansion project. However, looking to the future, I'd like my next role to be in a non Trading role. I've been able to develop my coaching skills throughout my career at ASDA and I believe that I'd be able to take both my trading and customer knowledge to a new area to support other colleagues in understanding aspects of the business they have not experienced before. I know that ASDA will give me all the support and guidance I ask for to ensure success.
