I’m Denise, I’m a Pharmacist at ASDA, and I have been for eight and a half years now. I used to work for an independent pharmacy but when it joined the ASDA family, I made the switch too.
I can honestly say that I wouldn’t change a thing about working here, it suits me in every way.
I’ve always believed that Pharmacists should do more than simply dispense prescriptions, so I was delighted to discover that this approach was exactly what ASDA looked for too. We like to think of ourselves as trusted health advisers for our customers and I relish any opportunities I get to give support or advice. We’ve even started to offer free blood pressure and diabetes testing in store, which is another important way we can help the local community.
Being part of an ASDA store also means there’s much more of a buzz than you might get in a chemist’s shop on the high street. People are always coming in as part of their weekly shop and you get to know the regulars who’ll stop for a chat, whether it’s about their health or not!
My son is still at school so I also really value the flexibility which shift working in the ASDA Pharmacy gives me. Other pharmacist friends who work in high street stores aren’t nearly as lucky and sometimes struggle to get the time off for that all important sports day or carol service.
Above all, working for ASDA gives me a real sense of autonomy. It’s like running your own business with sales targets to meet, but you also get something you’d never get if you worked for yourself – a bonus for hitting those targets!
