Hi, my name's Craig and I work in the ASDA online team as a Web Merchandising Assistant. My team work on the ASDA direct business, this is a website and a catalogue where our customers can browse 1000s of products and order them online or by phone. My team are responsible for the way that our products are displayed on the ASDA direct website. This involves making it easy for customers to search the site, to setting up product descriptions and the images through to any promotional activity - I work in the team that is responsible for the way that our customer's view the ASDA direct website; just as a store merchandising team would be responsible for the way our products are displayed in stores.
I also analyse the traffic, that is, the number of visitors to the site as well as sales and make recommendations to the trading team based on this analysis. I find it really satisfying implementing a new promotion on the site and then seeing its success through the sales data.
I joined ASDA in May 2008 when ASDA direct was just about to launch. It's exciting to be part of a completely new area of the ASDA business and also to be part of a team that's making it a great success! Every week, the whole ASDA.com team get together to update on key activity and we celebrate our successes. Due to our massive growth in the online business, we're breaking our own records nearly every day!
I did a degree in computing at Leeds University and went travelling across Asia, before joining another ecommerce company in Bradford. Then I heard that ASDA was launching a multi-channel team so I thought I'd apply. My role at ASDA gives me real responsibility and with over 2000 people working here at ASDA House (our home office in Leeds) there's more opportunity to work with different people, develop my confidence and my communication skills than I've ever had before. There'll be plenty of opportunities open to me to progress my career as the ASDA.com business grows. There are a wide variety of roles available such as Web Merchandising Managers, Content Managers or Operations Analysts - all of which would broaden my skill-set even further. Eventually I'd like to lead a team of people and my line manager is behind me every step of the way, supporting and coaching me.
Another great thing about working here is just how warm and friendly everybody is. My colleagues are supportive of each other, we are all focused on delivering our goals and we have lots of fun at the same time. We have a quiz every Friday afternoon in my department - which can get quite competitive! The whole building gets together once every 3 months for the Big Brunch which is a business up date with a twist. Usually, there's a celebrity here like McFly or local performers - we even had our own version of Britain's Got Talent recently too!
