I’m Andrew, General Store Manager and when I wrote this it was just five weeks before my store at Dalgety Bay opened.
I’ve been with ASDA in a variety of roles for 10 years now and I feel that this really is the culmination of everything I’ve worked hard to achieve since starting out as a part time colleague in the ASDA Dyce store back in 1998.
Right now there’s all the excitement of a promotion to a new role along with the challenge of putting a new team together to make sure that from the day the store opens everything will be firing on all cylinders.
It’s a real test of my leadership skills, but I feel that I’ve been very well prepared for it by all the experience I’ve gained in the last decade.
My day to day work is pretty hectic at the moment. I’m responsible for everything from overseeing the recruitment of 150 new colleagues to deciding where the new store’s post box is going to go! I’ve also got to keep a close eye on the local competition to make sure that we know what they’re up to and can respond with an even more appealing supermarket of our own.
I really don’t think I would have been given such fantastic opportunities or have been able to work with such fantastic people anywhere except ASDA. Naturally, at the moment the new store is the 100% focus of my effort and my attention, but looking to the future I would one day really like to find myself in charge of an ASDA Supercentre with all the responsibility that will inevitably involve.
