I currently work in the DIY team here at ASDA. I joined the business in the late 90's after completing my Finance and Tax degree at Hull University. At the time ASDA were an up and coming supermarket that had turned its performance around after a few turbulent years, so I wanted to be part of that!
I spent my first years working in Bloxwich, Perry Barr and Dudley stores as the Home and Leisure, Customer Services and Frozen Manager understanding our customers and learning all about retail. I then moved into ASDA House, our home office, onto the Trading floor, initially in the promotions team. Next I worked as a Trainee Buyer in Small Domestic Appliances, negotiating and working with suppliers to buy toasters and kettles and learning the skills needed to be a buyer. I concentrated too on further developing my leadership skills by building on my years working in store managing teams of colleagues.
More recently I headed up the ASDA Graduate scheme, recruiting and developing our future leaders in the business and I continue to follow their careers with real interest. This role gave me the opportunity to be involved in all areas of the graduate schemes, something I feel very passionate about. After this I moved back into Trading, as the Buying Manager for toys and now the Buying Manager in DIY, lightbulbs and motor products.
What I love about ASDA, is the varied career opportunities we provide, I've been involved in projects and areas of the business that I never thought possible from buying 'Doctor Who' masks to recruiting finance graduates to sourcing paint! As a business we offer the best prices and we strive to lower the cost of living to our customers - this is what I'm proud to be a part of.
I love football particularly West Bromwich Albion and I'm also a great fan of films and following Jack Bauer in the TV series 24.
