Geri,
Business Analyst
Project Management System Solutions Graduate

Hi, I’m Geri and I work in ISD (Information Systems Division - or often known as IT!) as part of the Multi Channel Team.

After graduating from Loughborough University, I was attracted to the great culture and brilliant atmosphere at ASDA. So far, working here has exceeded my expectations.

My first role was as a Helpdesk Analyst, supporting store colleagues to trouble shoot IT issues. This increased my technical knowledge and developed my service skills to my internal customers. Then I spent three months as part of the store team at our Morley store in Leeds, working in different departments and gaining a good understanding of our customers and the challenges in store.

Now I’m a Business Analyst for Home Shopping, which is really exciting, always changing and constantly keeps me on my toes. Project management is something I’ve always been interested in and now I’m learning first hand. Anything from IT business requests to offering support to the Home Shopping teams at our home office, in stores and depots, I gain exposure to a wide range of projects, including developmental work with Wal*Mart in the US.

The best thing here is that no two days are ever the same. You need to be resilient and be able to handle working in a pressurised environment.  Working in a team with friendly, helpful and approachable colleagues really makes the difference. In fact their encouragement is probably one of the reasons why the graduate programme is so successful. I genuinely feel supported to develop and progress my skills as well as having fun in what we do.

What's great as well is that we often get involved with the local community and charities. We recently went out to a local primary school and landscaped their gardens and we'll soon be doing a sponsored walk for charity in the Peak district.

However, although we have lots of fun, I won’t pretend otherwise - working here can be really tough at times. We work on systems that the business relies on, so you need to think clearly, prioritise projects, communicate effectively and remain calm under pressure. The rewards of seeing a project through to completion are brilliant as you know you’re making a real difference to the business.

As an ASDA graduate, you get as much out of this programme as you’re willing to put in. I for one wouldn’t have it any other way.
