In today's high speed, customer led and ultra competitive world of retail, technology is everywhere. In stores. In depots. In lorries. In offices. And most of it is linked together in one way or another to deliver incredible levels of efficiency, a fantastic customer experience and masses of crucial information. IT is the lifeblood of modern retail, and we've got our finger on the pulse.
Step forward our Information Systems Division (ISD), the 150-strong team in Leeds that makes it all happen. Actually, ISD consists of numerous teams with different roles but they all have one thing in common - a very close relationship with all parts of the business, at the Home Offices and out in the stores and depots. Design teams shape strategies and solutions that will deliver new and better processes. Delivery teams build the software and applications to make the solutions work. And the Service teams ensure projects land smoothly and then manage the physical IT infrastructure and the security of the information we use and store.
At Asda we've always up there with the best in retail technology. But since we became part of the Walmart world, we've moved to another level altogether. Walmart's expertise is phenomenal, and it's global. In Bentonville USA they have 3,000 people working in ISD alone! It's great for us here in Leeds because we get to work with these guys on a regular basis, sharing ideas and collaborating on the development of global systems that will influence the way the entire retail industry works.
There's never been a more exciting time to be involved in ISD at Asda.
