You can count on us to do things differently

First things first. Forget everything you think you know about finance. Because Finance at Asda is something altogether better.

Our team is made up of 250 colleagues who do a lot more than just the basics. They partner with the wider business, delivering accuracy, transparency and a real commercial focus to the numbers. Let us give you an example. Take our Distribution team. There'll be a specific Finance team sitting right alongside them - offering a commercial finance view on all their business plans and making sure they're commercially viable and helping in their delivery.

So what does this mean for you? Well, it means that you'll be working right at the heart of our business ensuring that we deliver on our promise to our customers; low costs every day. And with a £20 billion P&L to manage, it also means that you'll be part of something big - with all the career progression, challenges and opportunities you'd expect to come with that.

There are three key areas to our Finance team:

Financial Controllership

Our Financial Controllership teams are at the heart of the action when it comes to ensuring accuracy, transparency and timeliness across financial accounting, reporting, supplier payments and receivables, as well as tax, treasury and pensions management - they're the people who make sure we have good visibility of the right numbers and no nasty surprises.

In these teams, you'll get the chance to take control (quite literally) - your role is likely to include its own areas of P&L and balance sheet responsibility, and you'll be expected to take the lead to deliver outstanding finance customer service and to continuously improve the efficiency of our processes by leveraging your talent, new systems and technologies.

You'll also be joining the biggest team in finance, which means lots of opportunities to demonstrate your leadership skills and in particular your ability to grow the skills and talents of others … as well as your own!

Commercial Finance

This is where you'll find our Category and Department Finance teams. These are the people who partner the business areas and drive our business direction - sitting and working within the specific business unit that they partner.

There's a strong analytical focus here and a mix of long-term strategy and day-to-day decision making to be done. So as part of this department, you'd help with everything from analysing business performance to establishing category and supplier strategies and appraising investments.

Internal Audit

Our Internal Audit department is part of our Global Audit team and it's where all our key business processes get reviewed.  Internal Audit's role is to protect our company by understanding the risks the business is facing and executing insightful audit work to identify powerful actions to improve our business.

On this team, you'd work in partnership with the business to support our growth and drive changes. You'd have the chance to look at the business from a variety of perspectives and to build strong external networks. What's more, you'd be in a position to offer business insight and guidance on best practice across both Asda and Walmart.
