Hi, I'm Caroline and I manage IT projects across Asda.

The people centred culture, passion for customer service and development opportunities. They all made Asda stand out for me. From day one, I had real responsibility as I rolled out our Home Shopping system to 22 stores as part of the eCommerce team. I then worked on an exciting project in the Information Systems Division (ISD), working with Wal-Mart ISD to manage the implementation of a new Transport System to our depots. Now, I work in the online side of things again on two projects; the landing of our new Home Shopping Centre initiative, and the development of the next generation of our Home Shopping System.

It's the variety that I like most. From meetings with customer groups to working on system developments to supporting project execution in store, no two days are the same. You're also given responsibility to manage and deliver in a pressurised environment, so although it can be hard work at times, you know you’re making a difference. The wider business relies on us to sustain systems and drive projects forward.

I love seeing projects come to fruition and out there operating in our business. It's great to see change in our stores and depots and say to yourself, I helped make that happen!

We might be an IT function, but we're part of a global retail business. So, a genuine interest in working to keep prices low is key. You also need to be self driven, a good communicator and able to think on your feet. Teamwork’s a big part of the job and there's a real support structure – it's our people that make it what it is.

Asda provides on the job training and a range of great courses, but your personal development lies in your own hands – it's really what you make of it. You have to be proactive and enthusiastic about constantly developing, and seize the training opportunities available. My skills, knowledge and all round business acumen have grown so much throughout the programme, I feel a different person.

Asda is a fast paced, challenging and fun place to work, where you're recognised and respected as an individual. It's been a terrific start to my career – I’ve never looked back.
