Imagine yourself in the top job of running a big retail store that, each week, turns over £1.5 million and serves around 75,000 customers. Teams of colleagues take their lead and inspiration from you. You set the tone on everything from customer service and community involvement to cost and quality control. Every day you have to make hundreds of decisions, some big, some small, all vital to something or someone in the store.
Our Retail Management scheme aims to have you doing just this within five years, or even sooner in one of our smaller stores. As well as learning how to run a multi-million pound business, you'll learn how to inspire the colleagues within your store and help to make a huge difference to our customers' lives by making goods and services more affordable for everyone. The journey starts at one of our Stores of Learning, an eight week insight into the dynamics of store operations and management. Within three months of joining you'll be running a department and leading a team. In your second year you'll progress to a more demanding Department Manager role, maybe in a more challenging or larger store. From here on, the roles and responsibilities will get bigger as your confidence and capabilities grow, taking you into different departments with different challenges and often in different stores. Relocation sometimes comes with the territory, and retail is a 24 hour business, so you've got to be as flexible as you are determined.
By the end of the scheme (maybe even earlier if you've really worked wonders) you'll be ready to become a Trading Manager, heading up a team of Department Managers and now playing a decisive role in both business and people management. You've come a long way in a very short time and that's the way the journey will continue – working at a pace that demands a full tank of energy every day. And that's just in the day job! You'll get involved in community stuff too, maybe charity events or school support projects, because our commitment to helping our customers goes beyond the store and into their everyday lives.
Now you'll be on the road towards General Store Management and future leadership destinations right across the Asda business and the global map of Walmart.
To give you the best start onto our Retail Management Scheme we believe you need to have retail experience. We consider applications from Graduates with a minimum of a 2:1 honours degree in any discipline, but if you have a related degree that would be ideal. If you're an existing colleague you'll require a full endorsement from your GSM and PSM or your Line Manager if you're based at Asda House.
This role is nationwide; you could be working in any store within the UK and Northern Ireland so you'll need to hold a full UK Driving License and be able to relocate to different locations throughout the scheme.
