There are also a range of career opportunities for graduates at George.
Asda is famous for delivering quality products at great value. It's what our customers expect. As a Trading graduate working towards being a Senior Manager, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering this value, time and time again. So, if you're ready to work hard, soak up as much knowledge about the business as you can and be fast tracked to become a Buyer or a Merchandise Planner in as little as three years, then this is the ideal scheme for you.
You'll hit the ground running, starting with our fast track induction at Asda House. Then you'll spend 12 weeks in a dedicated training store, where you'll gain an in-depth understanding of how our stores operate. You'll then go on to spend a year as a Trading Assistant in Asda House and become the linchpin of the Buying Team. You'll learn all about cost negotiation, profitability analysis, our customers spending habits and much, much more. After this you'll take on the role of Trainee Buyer for your second year.
Here, you'll put what you've learnt into practice by managing a product range. This will involve full profit and loss responsibility and the opportunity to source products from all over the world - from the UK to the Far East. Don't feel intimidated though - one of our Buyers will be there to support and guide you. In the process, you'll gain invaluable experience of product ranging, marketing, packaging, merchandising, seasonal buying, selling, pricing and influencing and leading others.
If you're confident, tenacious and a logical thinker, with solid commercial acumen, then the answer is yes. You'll also need good numerical skills, the ability to analyse information quickly and clearly, and be the kind of person who can take calculated risks to deliver results. Prove yourself and the rewards will come quickly. After three years, you'll be ready to be appointed as a Buyer of your own department. After five, we’ll expect you to have developed the skills and experience to become a Senior Buyer. Beyond that, well, the sky's the limit. How far would you like to go?
We also have opportunities in our Merchandise Planning team, a new area of the Asda business. The team uses sales data to predict future product trends to ensure the availability of products that our customers need, either in stores or online. Merchandise Planners play a vital part in delivering for our customers. It's always important to plan for the future, by analysing sales information to develop our strategic plan which plays a crucial role in the profitability of our General Merchandise business. It's the chance to join a new and exciting part of Asda and make a real difference to our business and our customers.
If you are an analytical thinker, with a keen eye for detail and a real passion for delivering, then this is the role for you. Apply to the Trading scheme and you could be lucky enough to land a role in the new Merchandise Planning team, developing all the skills you need to become a Senior Manager of the future.
We consider applications from graduates with a 2:1 honours degree in any discipline, but if you have a related degree, that would be ideal.
This role is based at Asda House in Leeds.
