Helpful advice for graduates

It's only natural to want to give yourself the very best chance of success. After all, you know the saying "failing to plan is planning to fail". It’s just as true of a job application as it is of an expedition to the North Pole. So, take a look at these hints and tips, because they could make all the difference to you.

What we look for in a potential Asda graduate

Team work, leadership, commercial awareness and ambition; people who are prepared to put in as much as they want to take out.

Why Asda?

We want people who feel passionately about working in retail to join our graduate programme. So think carefully about why you want to join Asda. Do your research by visiting and shopping in our stores or depots. Speak to one of our colleagues. Read our website. Gain an understanding of what we believe in and where we’re going. Then take the opportunity to share with us your understanding and knowledge.

A little passion goes a long way

Who do you think comes across the best at assessment centres? The person who is quite interested in the job or the one who will be fulfilling a lifelong passion by being successful? If you really want to join us – let it show!

Show and tell

Give us examples of why you’ll be perfect for our graduate programme. Remember, we’ve never met you, so don’t presume we know everything about you - be yourself and show us what you can do.

Know yourself

Everyone has particular skills and nobody’s perfect. In your assessment centre and interview we’ll ask about your skills and about your areas for improvement. So come prepared to let us know. It’s a good idea to reflect beforehand, so you’ll be able to tell us how you’re already working to develop them too.

Honesty’s always the best policy

Be open and honest about yourself and let your personality shine through. We’ll all get the most from you if the true you comes across.

But most of all – enjoy

Of course assessments can be nerve-racking. That doesn’t mean that you can’t do everything possible to enjoy yours. Just remember, we want you to do well in your assessment centre just as much as you do. So relax and enjoy your day with us.
