To give you an idea of the size and scope of our distribution system, here are some pretty impressive statistics.
Every week all 25 depots in our network deliver nearly 20 million cases of chilled and packaged food and drink, 1.7 million cases of general merchandise and 2.5 million items of George clothing.
Transport and the environment
We deliver products by freight, road and air into our distribution centres whilst at the same time working hard to reduce the food miles and carbon emissions that are such an environmental concern today. This is an issue we take so seriously that we have introduced an initiative called 'People, Prices, Planet'.
24/7 operations
Retail is a 24-hour business, so we operate around the clock, 365 days a year to ensure that our products are available to the millions of customers who come through the doors of our stores! We're proud to say we're pretty good at it too as we recently won the ‘Best Supermarket for Availability’ award from the industry magazine, The Grocer.
Putting our customers first
We may not be on the front line serving customers in the ASDA supermarkets, but we do have internal customers, which are our stores. One of our key principles is to deliver exceptional service to them. This means that in the depots it's vital that we pull together as a team to ensure that stores have the right levels of stock all the time.
